Gerda Dendooven has studied Graphic Design in Gand, Belgium. Today, she is a leading figure in the world of illustration, as she was nominated several times for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award, and awarded numerous prizes. Her illustrations play with archetypes and absurd humour, they are direct and expressive, with strongly defined characters. She manages to create a bizarre and fantastic world, funny but at times scary, with a unique and intriguing style. Besides her production as complete author, she illustrated several books of prominent authors such as Bart Moeyaert, including L’Oca e suo Fratello (Sinnos). In Belgium, she is also renowned for her theatrical plays addressed to children. She was the honour guest of the 39th edition of the International Exhibition of Illustration “Le Immagini della Fantasia” in Sarmede.
